Return to Learning
Fall 2020
Fall 2020
Dear Yuba City High School Students and Families,
The new school year begins in less than two weeks. I am excited and enthusiastic about our return and look forward to the day where we will be back to normal with a full range of activities and services for our students. Until then, we will do our very best to provide a safe, enriching, and supportive learning environment and program for all our students under the circumstances we are living and with the resources we have. Our full commitment to helping our students earn their diploma and be prepared for college and career is unwavering; as is our pride in Yuba City High School—Home of the Honkers and the Brown and Gold!
YCUSD Superintendent Osumi recently issued an information sheet highlighting and explaining many of the changes planned for the upcoming school year. Her information sheet can be found on the school and district websites. I too want to share some important updates about the start of school. The supporting resources and documents for these updates will also be on our school website at www.ychs.ycusd.org.
Our school website is the main place to go for important information and updates. Our school website can be found at www.ychs.ycusd.org . Our school also uses phone and email automated messaging.

• YCHS has transitioned to a four period day schedule for the 2020 school year. Students will have 4 classes in the Fall and 4 classes in the Spring. In this new model, students earn a year’s worth of credit (10 credits) per class, per semester. This gives students more opportunities to take additional classes, do credit recovery, or make room in their schedule for taking classes at a community college. Students will have an opportunity to work with their counselor to select their courses for Spring semester in late October.
• YCHS will be hosting textbook and materials distributions near the start of school and all families and students will be messaged with the dates and information once these events have been finalized. Musical instruments will be part of this distribution.
• YCHS will host a schedule pick up for students and families desiring a paper schedule. Please note, schedules are available online through the Aeries Student and Parent Portals beginning August 6th and can be viewed through a cell phone.
• YCUSD will be announcing distribution dates for chromebooks in the coming days. Please check the district website at www.ycusd.org if your student needs a chromebook
• Our school offices will be open to the public by appointment only until further notice. Students and families should call or email for meeting requests. Information on who to call or email will be posted on our website. Whenever possible, remote meetings are preferred.
• A drop box has been ordered and will be installed so students and families can safely and securely drop off papers and forms to the school
• Athletics have been postponed until winter. The schedule for individual sports and athletics are available on our school website.
• Families and students coming on to campus will be required to cooperate with all health and safety rules that are posted at the school entrance on B Street.
Finally, I want to recognize these are anxious times and there is a diversity of public opinion on the topic of schools, safety, and re-opening. I know that we can meet this challenge and come together respectfully in support of our students in their immediate and long-term needs. I look forward to being a positive and edifying partner with everyone in this effort. Please know you can reach out to me personally by email or phone as needed.
Sincerely,
Robert F. Pogue, Principal
