Ceremony 2 begins at 7:30pm (gates open at 7:15pm)

*All students and families have previously been notified of their assigned ceremony.

We expect the Class of 2021 to conduct itself reverently and with dignity. We want all seniors and families to experience a graduation ceremony that everyone takes pride in, and we need your support to make it a reverent ceremony. We ask that parents and other spectators proudly support these efforts with appropriate behavior and comments and do not distract from the ceremony by using noise makers which are disruptive for other guests. For many families, this is the highlight of their year, and we want everyone to hear and see their graduate at his or her best.

Graduation tickets will be distributed at the end of graduation practice on Wednesday, June 2nd. The graduate will pick up and sign for an envelope that will contain five (5) tickets. There are no extra ceremony tickets available. Please do not contact the school office asking for more tickets.

Please read and familiarize yourself with the graduation dress code and conduct guidelines below.  These guidelines have been established for the benefit of all graduates to ensure a dignified ceremony that our community, parents, and family will enjoy.

Please check with administration if you have questions about the dress code before graduation day.

  • Cell phones are allowed during the pre-ceremony check-in and may only be used after the turning of the tassel. Cell phones used during the ceremony may be confiscated.
  • Graduation practice and the graduation ceremony are school activities and all students must adhere to the same school rules as during a normal school day (including the               dress code).
  • Any graduate who disrupts the ceremony (with balloons, noisemakers, toys or any other inappropriate item) will be removed immediately and may pick up his/her diploma the           following week.

Greetings to the YCHS CLASS OF 2021 and their Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Nearly 700 responses were submitted in our second survey on the preferred model for graduation. 71% of respondents favored a two ceremony model as it affords more tickets for spectators than a one ceremony model. Of the 71%, a majority favored the 2 ceremony model with 5 tickets to be provided to each senior for their family.

With that, YCHS will host two graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 on June 4, 2021 at Honker Stadium!
  • Each senior will be provided 5 tickets for family guests.
  • Tickets will be distributed on the first day of graduation practice—Wednesday, June 2nd.
  • Additional important Senior information will be sent out later this week.

 Ceremony 1 at 5:30 pm
 Ceremony 2 at 7:30 pm

Please click the link below to submit your preferred ceremony time. Seniors who do not submit their preference by May 10, 2021 will be assigned a ceremony. Please only one submission per graduate.

YCHS will honor as many requests as possible, while staying within the required COVID-19 guidelines, on a first-come, first-served basis.

*Ceremony Information and Guidelines

*Ceremony Information and Guidelines

April 20, 2021

Dear Class of 2021, and their Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

Attached you will find additional information relating to the COVID-19 guidelines our school is obligated to follow relating to an in-person graduation ceremony. These guidelines explain why the decision to host two graduation ceremonies on June 4th was made. Please review these attachments if you have questions or concerns. In general, the size of our in-person graduation ceremony for the Class of 2021 is determined by the COVID-19 county “tier” status (Purple, Red, Orange, Yellow) implemented by the State of California. Each tier is allowed a percent of the facility’s total seating capacity. The YCHS stadium has a total capacity of 4115 persons; this includes both sets of bleachers.

  • If Sutter County is in the Purple Tier, we are allowed 100 persons or fewer—there would not be an in-person graduation in Purple Tier

  • If Sutter County is in the Red Tier, we are allowed 20% of capacity or 823 persons.

  • If Sutter County is in the Orange Tier, we are allowed 33% capacity or 1371 persons.

  • If Sutter County is in the Yellow Tier, we are allowed 66% capacity or 2743 persons.

We expect, and are planning for, Sutter County to be in the Orange Tier in the planning days leading up to graduation. To remain within the capacity guidelines of Orange Tier, YCHS had an option to host one or two graduation ceremonies.

  • With one ceremony, each student would get 2 tickets for guests to attend; 400 students, 800 guests plus support staff.

  • With two ceremonies, each student would get 4-5 tickets for guests to attend; with either 800 or 1000 guests plus support staff. (See Options A & B below)
Students and families were surveyed on their desire of one or two ceremonies and ticket numbers. The survey overwhelmingly showed that families and senior students desired more tickets—not less. 313 persons responded with 69.2% of respondents indicating a preference for two ceremonies and more tickets, 28.8% of respondents indicating a preference for one ceremony and less tickets, and 1.9% of respondents indicating they do not plan to attend an in-person graduation.

With that information, YCHS announced the plan to host two ceremonies with students getting 5 tickets for guests. Of course, this is dependent on our county tier status and being in Orange Tier. If we stay in Red Tier, students will get 3 tickets. If we are in Yellow Tier, YCHS could quickly adjust to one ceremony for all students and allow 5 tickets each. However, the likelihood of Sutter County being in Yellow Tier at that time is not high. It is more likely Sutter County will be in Orange Tier.

In the Orange Tier there is another set of possible options to consider:

  • Option A: each graduate will be able to have 5 tickets for guests to attend; 200 students, 1000 guests plus support staff.

  • Option B: each graduate will have 4 tickets for guests to attend and the senior class will be present for both ceremonies but the guests will rotate in and out. Ceremony 1 guests will see Ceremony 1 students graduate.  Ceremony 2 guests will see Ceremony 2 students graduate.. The Class of 2021 will have the option of being present for both ceremonies.

*YCHS will survey students and families on this option later in the week

I understand this is mixed news but it is certainly better news than we had a year ago and the opportunities that the previous Class of 2020 had. They had no in-person graduation ceremony at all. YCHS is excited to host this special event and will make both ceremonies traditional in nature with caps and gowns, a processional and recessional, speeches, recognitions, walking the stage, certification of the class by a YCUSD Trustee, music, performance, and decorations. Graduation for the Class of 2021 will be a night to remember!

Sincerely,

Robert F. Pogue
