Hello Mrs. Russell’s students and parents,
I am entering my fifth year as a counselor at YCHS and my twelfth year working with high school students. I truly enjoy being a counselor and the opportunity it affords me in guiding students not only in graduating from high school, but exploring all the possibilities that are available, whether that incorporates a college education or not. I like to think that I bring some varied experiences to the table; I attended San Jose State University for my bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and after many years, returned to receive my Masters in school counseling from National University. I have worked in high-tech public relations as well as government affairs. My “passion” job has always been working with horses. I interned at the Kentucky Horse Park, worked as groom for a grand-prix show jumper and travelled around the United States competing, and I also worked as a riding instructor. I tell students all the time, if you can make a living doing what you love, there is nothing better.
I am originally from England and moved here when I was a freshmen in high school (you may detect a slight accent). I am married with two daughters, one in eighth grade and one is a sophomore this year. My main hobby is traveling and exploring new places.
I look forward to working with all of you this school year.
